Naomi Angell
Naomi is a children’s lawyer working for Osbornes Law in London. For most of her legal career Naomi has specialised in child protection cases. Her cases are now mainly cross border children’s case, including international and domestic adoption and surrogacy, and human rights cases with an immigration law interface. These include cases for UK families, mostly relatives, rescuing children from a foreign country, where they may be orphaned, have no one able to care for them and keep them safe, or are in danger because of war or natural disaster. Naomi has also frequently represented and advised migrant and unaccompanied children and young people in the children’s law aspects of their cases. Naomi has always combined her casework with family policy work promoting changes in family law and practice where her casework shows this is necessary. She has given evidence to parliamentary committees and been a member of many influential national committees.
Currently she is a member of an expert group of lawyers, retired judges, academics and social workers, working to establish a new, one stop court for unaccompanied and migrant children, which will span immigration, crime and childcare jurisdictions. She is also working to establish a system, in England and Wales, for a guardian to be appointed for each unaccompanied child entering this country. Scotland has this system, where guardians help, support and advocate for these most vulnerable minors in navigating a current system which is both and hostile and punitive towards them.
Naomi is recognised as a leader in her field and in 2020 she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Law Society of England and Wales.
