Our Shama project has now ended.

Shama was an Afghan-led creative drama project for Afghan refugees aged 16-21, held at the Barbican. It took place in 2022.

Led by and for Afghan refugees, the project was a space for newly arrived Afghan refugees living in hotels to express themselves, gain confidence, make new friends and reflect creatively on their lives. Led by Syed and Roqia in Dari and Pashto language alongside English, the group provided a meaningful opportunity to gather in the context of complex upheaval.
